DCR Current Sensing Method for Adaptive Voltage Positioning in Coupled Inductor Voltage Regulators

Description:

The conventional current sensing method with sensing resistors produces additional losses and decreases the efficiency in the multiphase DC-DC converters with coupled inductors.  A novel lossless current sensing method in multiphase DC-DC converters with coupled inductors is proposed.  With this novel method, the additional loss is saved and the efficiency of the DC-DC converter is increased, which means a longer battery life in battery powered equipments and higher power density and lower cost of an equipment with multiphase DC-DC converters with coupled inductors.  Experiment was conducted to verify the validity of the proposed lossless current sensing method.
