Near-ideal (colossal) Magnetoelectricity in High-Permeability Magnetostrictive/Piezo/Fiber Laminates
Case ID:
06.084
Web Published:

Manetoelectricity is the interaction between the polarization and manetization subsystems of a solid. Giant mangeto-electric (ME) effects are known in laminate composites of magnetostrictive and piezoelectric layers, which are orders of magnitude higher than those of single phase systems. Theoretically, the longitudinally-magnetized longitudinally-poled (L-L) laminate configuration should have much higher ME effects; however, prior experimental studies have failed to find such enhancement. This invention presents an L-L configuration with near-ideal ME coupling with colossal ME effects--having more than an order of magnitude higher than the giant ME effects.
