A Laser/Vision-Based Underwater Distance Measuring Unit
Case ID:
12-164
Web Published:
9/5/2012
The Laser/Vision-Based Underwater Distance Measuring Unit is a low cost sensor designed to determine the relative distance to unknown objects in underwater environments. The sensor is designed to (and for) use in underwater environments when the use of acoustic-based measurement sensors is not feasible either due to price or the underwater environments whose physical layouts make acoustic sensors unreliable. Some underwater environments where this sensor could be beneficial are enclosed underwater caves, large enclosed underwater structures such as shipwrecks, and working environments where both relative range and bearing information are desired.
