Magnetic Geometry With Programmed Field Distribution
The programmed field distribution is leveraged to achieve high magnetic-energy density, leading to inductor geometries with significantly improved space utilization and current rating compared to the conventional inductors. A special case results in programmed field distribution is the constant-flux distribution. Programmed-field distribution is advantageous not only from the density point, but also from the standpoints of efficiency, thermal management, and current rating via the reduction of hot spots and dc resistance according to the comparisons between the programmed-field inductor and commercial product.
