Polyimide-Polysiloxane Segmented CoPolymers Crosslinked By Radiation

This disclosure describes highly gas permeable, soluble, polyimide-polysiloxane segmented copolymers which can be crosslinked with radiation. The monomers contain benzylic methyl groups and ketones as the crosslinkable moieties. The role of the polysiloxane is to improve the mechanical properties of the otherwise brittle polyimide components so that thin film membranes from the copolymers have robust mechanical properties. The polysiloxane is capable of improving the ductility of the films without altering the permeability and selectivity characteristics desired for separation of carbon dioxide from flue gases and other mixtures.
