Noise Reducing Surface Treatment for Airfoil

This innovative design comprises a surface treatment on airfoils that reduces trailing edge noise. Existing measurements suggest noise reduction by as much as 15dB. Most present designs to mitigate trailing edge noise involve changing the shape of the airfoil trailing edge. However, this technology utilizes a novel surface treatment to attenuate boundary layer pressure fluctuations and reduce span-wise correlation of turbulent structures impacting the trailing edge.
