Electrolysis Assisted Mitigation of Reverse Salt Flux in Forward Osmosis Systems

Description:

An innovative method is developed to control and reduce reverse solute flux in forward osmosis (FO) systems. FO technologies have been studied and developed for sustainable desalination or waste water treatment (for reuse). A key obstacle for FO application is reverse flux of draw solute, which can cause loss of draw solute and thus increase the operational cost. This invention has successfully reduced reverse solute flux with the aid of electrolysis and a special design of FO systems.
