Embedded Active Fiber Optic Sensing Network for Structural Health Monitoring in Harsh Environments

Description:

This optical fiber based distributed sensing system is able to monitor structure health, temperature and strain of the surrounding structure simultaneously in harsh environment of high temperature (1000 C). The distributed non-destructive evaluation is achieved by an all-fiber NDE structure and is immune to EMI and high temperature. And it can detect both defects inside structures and surface corrosions, which will give a more precise evaluation of the construction health. This system can claim other advantages of long term stability due to the nature of optical fiber sensing, lower cost and minimal changes to the original structure.
