An Assistive Robotic Exoskeleton Glove Designed for Patients with Brachial Plexus Injuries
THE CHALLENGE Exoskeleton gloves have proven to be invaluable in post-surgery therapy for patients with Brachial Plexus Injuries, countering hand muscle atrophy through controlled and assisted movements. While many rehab gloves target stroke recovery, they lack the desired Human-Machine Interface and struggle to find the right balance between performance...

A Novel One-Pot Process for Synthesis of Graphene and Graphene-Derivatives from Coals
Graphene is a potential "miracle" material with superior properties of tensile strength, thermal and electrical conductivity, and corrosion resistance. Current graphite-based production processes result in very high priced graphene (a gram of graphene oxide can cost over $150), which acts as barrier for commercial exploitation of this remarkable...

Self-Cleaning/Non-Wetting Coating for Corrosion Protection of Metallic Structures
This invention is a novel two-step electrodeposition technique to fabricate superhydrophobic metallic coatings. The method has been demonstrated with a superhydrophobic copper coating with multiscale surface features. A thermodynamic model has been developed which supports extending this invention to other metals.

High Frequency Devices Employing Non-Linear Ballistic and Hydrodynamic Transport Regimes Offer New Features and Improved Energy Efficiency
THE CHALLENGE: Current electronic devices are limited by electron transport speed Due to the limits of their materials, conventional electronics allow only diffusive electron transport motion and only in one dimension. Advances in material purity are allowing newly discovered ballistic and hydrodynamic electron transport regimes to be reached in solid...

Planar Bridging-Droplet Thermal Diodes
THE CHALLENGE Thermal diodes preferentially conduct heat in one direction but insulate in the reverse direction. They are of immense practical interest for smart thermal management of aircraft, electronics, and buildings. However, real-life implementation has been constrained by poor effectiveness (solid-state diodes), dependence on a gravitational...
